Isle I Do: Proposals from Venus

Proposals from Venus
Can a woman propose?
With her heart pounding, palms sweaty and her grin frozen in place. She got down on one knee and opened her mouth, the words came out like a whisper and then she realized she didn't say anything at all. "Will you marry me!" she finally uttered. There she was, a female asking that time old question to the love of her life (her boyfriend...how cute), whatever could she be thinking?
Tradition has created an unwritten rule that men must be the ones to get down on rickety knee in order to take the relationship to the next level, while women must wait until they are ready to do so.
He is the one who decides when they will embark on the ultimate of commitments. But why does it have to be that way?
It's of course a wonderful experience to be asked by the man you love more than anything in the world to be his wife. But imagine what he feels. The fear and anxiety of wondering if you will say yes or instantly reject him. There are some men who are planning to ask their sweetheart but would love for her to take the reins instead.
Our recent survey has revealed that most men don't really mind at all. In fact, they were flattered at the idea of a woman wanting and loving them enough to spend the rest of her life with them. Let's face it, men need their egos stroked at least once in a while and asking him to marry you is the equivalent of rubbing a cat behind the ears for a full day.
Men love that kind of stuff (even though they might not admit it). They'll love you even more for having the courage and independence to go after what you want. Sure there are exceptions to the rule, but that goes for everything else on this planet. The same way women want to feel like the centre of the universe sometimes, men do too; they just have different ways of showing it.
There are women who have waited more than a decade "to be asked by their man". It's okay to put men on the spot sometimes. If you love, trust and respect each other. If you want to spend every moment, all the good times and the bad with this person and you believe he feels the same way, why wait? Chin up, smile and go for it!
